Forecast calls for ample job opportunities for Insulators in 2021

The Columbus construction boom will keep members of the Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Craftworkers Local 50 busy with major projects underway or set to start in 2021.

Due to the ongoing building boom in the area, Mechanical Insulators, Firestop experts and members of other union building trades are expected to log more hours than in 2020.

The 2021 construction forecast features major projects such as:

The Hilton expansion is an important project for downtown Columbus, as it will give the city the large hotel it needs to host premier events such as a national political convention. Once complete, the Hilton will have over 1,000 rooms.

This project will provide Local 50 members significant opportunities for manhours in 2021. The hotel expansion is expected to open in 2022.

The Wexner project carries an almost $2 billion price tag, but Local 50 members will likely not be onsite until 2022.

However, work to complete the Franklin County Jail and multiple datacenters will keep members busy.

This is in addition to a large number of small and medium-sized projects throughout the Local 50 jurisdiction.

In most cases, members of Local 50 will install or maintain mechanical insulation on mechanical systems. This allows the mechanical systems to run more efficiently and helps reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted into the atmosphere. Additionally, some Local 50 members will also perform the live-saving task of Firestop on some projects.

The positive forecast also makes 2021 a great year for men and women, regardless of race or sex, to begin a career in the mechanical insulation industry as members of Insulators Local 50.
